Book 2 in the Beacon Series: Progress Update on Opal 3

Finally, I have a name for the next installment of the Beacon series: the title of book 2 is "Opal 3" (the 3 referring to any planet with Earth-like conditions). You can see how this could evolve into quite a few books, with the jewel-themed titles.

Opal 3 is developing into something a bit bigger than Emerald 3, in part because the setting is spread out more (an outpost station, an asteroid field, and the planet Opal 3). But also because of the subplot that's been developing. Without giving too much away, I can say that it has something to do with Down syndrome. I know, DS and space opera, not your usual fare.

For those of you waiting to see more of Fioran and Alohxi, never fear—it'll be a little while, but they'll have their very own novel.

Update on this week's post about the Cover Art Review blog: Several people dropped by to offer input, and a couple of them took the time to really pick apart the cover of Emerald 3 and say what works and what they'd change. A special shout-out to Nathan Lowell for being thorough and funny. :)

  1. Downs Syndrome and Space Opera? Sounds intriguing. Good luck!

  2. Thanks, Diane. One of my daughters has DS, and she's just the most amazing person. :)
